Strong online competition during live Flanders Embryo Auction
Showjumpers from Eastern Europe have taken another step toward the future of equestrian sport by securing embryos during the Flanders Embryo Auction. The foals, expected to be born in 2026, were auctioned on Saturday evening, November 1, in Šamorín. Intense online bidding meant that 17 of the 22 embryos sold, found new owners via the internet.
The Flanders Embryo Auction was held for the second time at the impressive X-Bionics Equestrian Center in Slovakia, where hundreds of showjumping riders from around the world gather for the Danube Champions Tour. Hungarian rider Laszló Tóth immediately made his move on the first embryo. For the first time, a United Touch S out of the 1.60m Grand Prix mare Haertthago (by Heartbreaker) was offered, and Tóth secured it with the winning bid of €38,000.
A Dexter de Kerglenn out of FEI Nations Cup winner Jeunesse (Eldorado van de Zeshoek), followed for €30,000, purchased online by a Brazilian 5* Grand Prix rider.
“It was striking how many international riders made purchases. It shows the confidence they have in the damlines we offer, combined with proven stallions,” said organizers Luk Van Puymbroeck and Gerald Lenaerts. “The online audience watching and bidding gave us tremendous support during the auction. With an average of just over €17,000, the results were slightly lower than last year, but we’ve been spoiled in previous auctions. The buyers will certainly be happy. They’ve secured very interestingly bred embryos at attractive prices and we’re confident we’ll hear more from them in the future. For the breeders, it’s also reassuring to see the embryos go to the right people.”
Five to the same Irish stable
Some online investors bought multiple embryos. One Irish buyer, who had previously purchased a Flanders foal, secured five embryos at attractive prices. A regular client from the United States bought three, including the Ermitage Kalone x Aganix du Seigneur for €20,000. Both the dam Oak Grove’s Americana and Oak Grove’s Heartfelt competed successfully at 1.60m Grand Prix level.
Five embryos are heading to France, two of them sold for €20,000 each: an Emerald out of the 1.60m Grand Prix mare L’Espoir d’Opaline (Nabab de Rêve) and a Cornet Obolensky x Kannan whose dam is a half-sister to Olympic stallion United Touch S. Another Ermitage Kalone out of the 1.50m level showjumping mare Melia de Regor (Elvis ter Putte) also sold for €20,000 and was purchased on-site by buyers from Croatia.
Abu Dhabi and Oliva next
“There’s definitely potential to continue expanding the Flanders Embryo Auction, just as we maintain our presence in the Emirates,” Van Puymbroeck and Lenaerts continued. “Our next embryo auction will take place on January 23 during the Al Shira’aa Horse Show in Abu Dhabi. After that, on February 21, we’ll host our first embryo auction at the international show in Oliva, Spain, thanks in part to Šamorín organizer Robert Pal, with whom we’ve already enjoyed two great collaborations. He’s highly motivated, professional and also involved in the Oliva event. We believe in the concept of combining on-site auctions with online bidding and look forward to further strengthening the name of Flanders Foal Auction.”
Veel online concurrentie tijdens live Flanders Embryo Auction
Springruiters uit Oost-Europa hebben een nieuwe stap gezet in de toekomst van de paardensport door embryo’s vast te leggen tijdens de Flanders Embryo Auction. De veulens die in 2026 geboren worden, werden zaterdagavond 1 november in Šamorín geveild. De online concurrentie was alleen zo groot dat 17 van de 22 verkochte embryo’s via het internet een nieuwe eigenaar kregen.
De Flanders Embryo Auction vond voor de tweede keer plaats op het imponerende X-Bionics Equestrian Center in Slowakije, waar honderden springruiters van heinde en ver samenkomen voor de Danube Champions Tour. De Hongaarse ruiter Laszló Tóth sloeg meteen zijn slag bij het eerste embryo. Voor het eerst werd een United Touch S uit de 1.60m Grand Prix-merrie Haertthago (Heartbreaker) geveild en hij stak zijn hand op met het winnende bod van 38.000 euro.
Met 30.000 euro volgde de Dexter de Kerglenn uit Nations Cup winnares Jeunesse (Eldorado van de Zeshoek), die online werd aangekocht door een Braziliaanse 5* Grand Prix ruiter.
“Het was opvallend hoeveel internationale ruiters aankopen deden. Het zegt veel over hun vertrouwen in de merrielijnen die we aanbieden, gecombineerd met bewezen hengsten. De achterban die online meekeek en bood, gaf ons veel steun tijdens de veiling. Met iets meer dan 17.000 euro gemiddeld zaten we wat lager dan vorig jaar, maar we zijn ook wel verwend geweest tijdens eerdere veilingen. De kopers gaan sowieso blij zijn. Ze hebben apart gefokte embryo’s voor interessante prijzen kunnen vastleggen en we zijn ervan overtuigd dat we hier in de toekomst meer van gaan horen. Dat ze bij de juiste mensen terechtkomen, is voor de fokkers ook een plus”, vertellen Luk Van Puymbroeck en Gerald Lenaerts.
Vijf naar dezelfde Ierse stal
Er waren online investeerders die meerdere embryo’s kochten. Eén Ier, die al eens een Flanders veulen kocht, legde er vijf vast voor aantrekkelijke prijzen. Een vaste klant uit Amerika kocht er drie, waaronder de Ermitage Kalone x Aganix du Seigneur voor 20.000 euro. De moeder Oak Grove’s Americana én Oak Grove’s Heartfelt sprongen allebei 1.60m Grand Prix.
Vijf embryo’s gaan naar Frankrijk, waarvan twee voor 20.000 euro: de Emerald uit de 1.60m Grand Prix merrie L’Espoir d’Opaline (Nabab de Reve) en de Cornet Obolensky x Kannan, waarvan de moeder een halfzus is van de olympische hengst United Touch S. De Ermitage Kalone uit de 1.50m springmerrie Melia de Regor (Elvis ter Putte) bracht eveneens 20.000 euro op en werd ter plekke aangekocht door mensen uit Kroatië.
Abu Dhabi en Oliva
“De potentie om door te groeien met de Flanders Embryo Auction is hier zeker wel, net als dat we nog altijd naar de Emiraten gaan. Dat is onze eerstvolgende embryo veiling, op 23 januari tijdens de Al Shira’aa Horse Show in Abu Dhabi. Daarna gaan we op 21 februari voor het eerst embryo’s veilen op het internationaal concours in Oliva, Spanje, mede dankzij Šamorín organisator Robert Pal, waar we nu al twee keer ontzettend fijn mee hebben samengewerkt. Hij is zeer gemotiveerd, professioneel en is ook betrokken bij het evenement in Oliva. Wij geloven in het concept van veilen op locatie in combinatie met online bieden en kijken er naar uit om de naam van Flanders Foal Auction verder uit te bouwen”, vertellen Luk Van Puymbroeck en Gerald Lenaerts.
