Professionals hit their stride at Flanders Embryo Auction

With foals soon to be born and with such interesting pedigrees, the battle erupted one more time at Sentower Park on Saturday evening, 3 February. The last Flanders Embryo Auction of the indoor season closed with 21 embryos sold out of the 26 listed in the catalogue.

“Another great result and an average price of 17,000 euros. We would happily sign for that in advance. The auction was once again entertaining and I think we will see many of these foals successfully in the future. They came into professional hands,” say Luk Van Puymbroeck and Gerald Lenaerts.

More and more Flanders 'embryos' are breaking through in sport and breeding, as recently two auctioned colts and two embryos at the age of 2.5 years were approved by German studbooks. “It is also inevitable that this group will produce very good horses. Of course, it all depends where they end up, but they will find their way anyway. Quality is discovered at a young age and several horses have already been sold for high amounts. You see that it really pays off to invest in our auctions. Professionals recognise this as well and they bought in abundance tonight,” the auctioneers say.

Similar as a month ago at the Emirates, this Flanders Embryo Auction also had to rely on live visitors. “We did receive quite some online bids as well, but most of them dropped out around 14,000 euros. In total, we only sold three online: two to USA and one to Germany.” Among them, though, one of the auction top-sellers that was sold first and fell into American hands for 26,000 euros. It is the Chacco Blue x Nabab de Reve, bred out of the full sister of Brooklyn Heights (1.65m GP).

Belgians and Dutch invested in ten embryos. A loyal customer from the Netherlands made the winning bid of 26,000 euros by phone for the Heartbreaker x Chacco Blue embryo, bred out of the full sister of the European championship showjumper Chatinue. He also bought the Dominator 2000 Z x Querlybet Hero out of the lineage of Fragance de Chalus for 22,000 euros. The same amount was offered by a Dutch Grand Prix rider for the very interesting Diamant de Semilly x For Pleasure, whose grandam is Walnut de Muze.

Danish visitors purchased three embryos, such as Carrera VDL's half-brother for 22,000 euros. Like Carrera VDL, this Chacco Blue x Baloubet du Rouet is out of Vantiels Esprit (1.50m jumping), the half-sister of Tinka's Boy. Irish customers took three embryos. Sentower Park's owners and another Belgian auction house may also expect a foal soon.

“In the meantime, we are looking forward to the foal season. Embryo auctions have their charm, but nothing beats a beautiful foal in the auction arena. That always gives much more experience,” says Luk Van Puymbroeck.

Professionals slaan hun slag op Flanders Embryo Auction

 

Met veulens die binnenkort al geboren worden en met zulke interessante pedigrees, barstte op zaterdagavond 3 februari de strijd nog één keer los op het Sentower Park. De laatste Flanders Embryo Auction van het indoorseizoen sloot af met 21 verkochte embryo’s van de 26 die in de catalogus stonden. 

“Weer een zeer goed resultaat en een gemiddelde prijs van 17.000 euro. Daar tekenen we van tevoren voor. Het was weer gezellig en we gaan denk ik nog veel van deze veulens terughoren. Ze zijn in professionele handen gekomen”, vertellen Luk Van Puymbroeck en Gerald Lenaerts.

Steeds vaker komen Flanders ‘embryo’s’ bovendrijven in de sport en fokkerij, want recent werden twee geveilde hengstveulens en twee embryo’s op tweeënhalfjarige leeftijd goedgekeurd door Duitse stamboeken. “Het kan ook niet anders dan dat deze groep zeer goede paarden gaat voortbrengen. Je blijft natuurlijk afhankelijk van waar ze terecht komen, maar ze vinden hun weg sowieso wel. Kwaliteit wordt op jonge leeftijd al ontdekt en meerdere paarden zijn al voor hoge bedragen verkocht. Je ziet dat het echt loont om te investeren op onze veilingen. Professionals zien dat ook in en die kochten vanavond volop in”, vertellen de veilingmannen.

Net als een maand geleden in de Emiraten moest ook deze Flanders Embryo Auction het hebben van de bezoekers. “Online werd er ook regelmatig meegeboden, maar de meesten haakten af rond de 14.000 euro. In totaal hebben we er maar drie online verkocht: twee naar Amerika en één naar Duitsland.” Daaronder wel één van de veilingtoppers die als eerste onder de hamer kwam en in Amerikaanse handen viel voor 26.000 euro. Het gaat om de Chacco Blue x Nabab de Reve, gefokt uit de volle zus van Brooklyn Heights (1.65m GP).

Belgen en Nederlanders namen tien embryo’s voor hun rekening. Een loyale klant uit Nederland deed per telefoon het winnende bod van 26.000 euro voor de embryo van Heartbreaker x Chacco Blue, gefokt uit de volle zus van het EK-springpaard Chatinue. Hij kocht ook de Dominator 2000 Z x Querlybet Hero uit de stam van Fragance de Chalus voor 22.000 euro. Hetzelfde bedrag bood een Nederlandse Grand Prix-amazone voor de zeer interessante Diamant de Semilly x For Pleasure, waarvan Walnut de Muze de grootmoeder is.

Deense bezoekers legden drie embryo’s vast, zoals de halfbroer van Carrera VDL voor 22.000 euro. Deze Chacco Blue x Baloubet du Rouet komt net als Carrera VDL uit Vantiels Esprit (1.50m springen), de halfzus van Tinka’s Boy. Ieren namen drie embryo’s mee. De eigenaren van Sentower Park en een ander Belgisch veilinghuis mogen binnenkort ook een veulen verwachten.

“Ondertussen kijken wij uit naar het veulenseizoen. Embryoveilingen hebben hun charme, maar niets gaat boven een mooi veulen in de veilingpiste. Dat geeft altijd veel meer beleving”, vertelt Luk Van Puymbroeck.
